Gremaud wins in Chur
That's what you call a perfect start: Mathilde Gremaud wins the Freestyle World Cup opener in Chur in an incredibly confident manner, continuing her almost uncanny podium series.
Mathilde Gremaud is simply picking up where she left off at the end of last season: with a World Cup victory. As usual, the World Cup season got off to an early start in Chur with a City Big Air under floodlights and the Swiss freestyler was once again able to prove in front of her home crowd what incredible shape she is in.
After already showing the best jump in the qualification, Mathilde was the last starter on the hill and showed all her class in the first two jumps. With a carved left double cork 1260 safety and a score of 91.25pts, she was able to put a lot of pressure on the competition from the very first jump and further fueled the already incredible atmosphere.
Mathilde's second jump was an equally cleanly executed switch left double cork 1080 safety and gave her a score of 87.25pts. In best two out of three mode, she was almost unassailable in the lead.
After all the other finalists had completed their third jump and Mathilde was the last jumper on the ramp, victory was already hers and so she did a show jump with a relaxed 360 mute and then enjoyed bathing in the frenetically celebrating crowd full of family and friends.
This gives the reigning overall World Cup winner a perfect start to the all-important World Championship season, which is set to culminate in the World Championships at Corvatsch, Silvaplana.
